Transpower re-signs with Alcatel-Lucent

Three-year contract for maintenance of core telecommunications infrastructure

Alcatel-Lucent has re-signed its managed services agreement with Transpower for a further three years. Under the contract, Alcatel-Lucent is responsible for Transpower’s core telecommunications infrastructure life-cycle management, including operations and maintenance of the multi-vendor network.

Transpower’s high-voltage electricity transmission network links electricity generators with distribution companies and major industrial users.

Alcatel-Lucent designed the IP-based fibre optic telecommunications network and began building it in 2007. The company also has an exclusive contract to maintain and operate core telecommunications infrastructure for Transpower from a dedicated network operating centre in Hamilton.

The IP-based network features key components of Alcatel-Lucent’s utility solutions portfolio, giving Transpower access to advanced capabilities for transporting voice, video and data applications between sites, as well as providing scalable network architecture based on Alcatel-Lucent’s service routing and optical networking portfolios.

The value of the extended contract has not been disclosed.
