Telecom tipped to introduce unlimited $12 per month texts

New service rumoured to be offered on XT network

Tomorrow could see the introduction of an unlimited SMS plan, Non-Stop Text, by Telecom, on its new XT network.

Readers of technology site Geekzone are reporting that a mailer from retail chain Bond and Bond mentions a plan that costs $12 a month and that allows any number of texts to any mobile network in New Zealand. The plan has no time of the day or weekday restrictions, but is subject to Fair Use policy.

Telecom spokesman Nick Brown would not confirm or deny that the plan is being launched on Wednesday, but says Telecom is always looking to innovate in the mobile market.

"And, we'll be seeing a lot more innovation from now on," Brown said.

New Zealanders are some of the heaviest users of SMS in the world.
