2degrees claims 42,500 ported numbers

New player claims inroads into Vodafone customer base

New mobile provider 2degrees says it has ported 42,500 mobile phone numbers from other providers since it launched in August this year.

Mobile number portability gives consumers the ability to keep their existing mobile phone number if they change telecommunications providers.

2degrees CEO, Eric Hertz says that prior to 2degrees' launch, the average number of ports per month was only 3,501 numbers. 2degrees says it alone has ported on average 8,500 a month — and mainly from Vodafone customers.

“Since 2degress entered the market in August, mobile porting has increased by 410%, hitting a staggering monthly average of 14,377, and 70 percent of these numbers have been transferred over to 2degrees," Hertz says. "Of our 42,500 mobile ports, 85 percent have moved to 2degrees from Vodafone.”
