FX Networks denies mobile degradation role

CEO says he has no idea why Vodafone is blaming his company

FX Networks chief executive Murray Jurgeleit says he has no idea why Vodafone is blaming his company for problems that affected mobile services on Saturday.

Some Vodafone customers had to try twice to send calls and texts. Vodafone spokesman Paul Brislen says a scheduled outage by FX Networks was to blame.

Jurgeleit says Ontrack advised five weeks ago that it had scheduled a maintenance outage on its fibre at Franklin Junction.

“It went to plan and there were no problems. We use their fibre and sub-contract it; so does Telstra.

“None of the other carriers, including Telstra, Kordia and Datacom, had any problems.

“I’ve no idea why Vodafone is blaming us. We didn’t carry out the maintenance.”

He says all the carriers have diverse network routes.

“We’re seeking more accurate information about what caused the outage,” he says.

Vodafone spokesman Paul Brislen declined to comment this morning, saying the matter was being investigated further.
