Shower and tapware designer Methven has turned to the cloud to optimise its wide area network for supply chain management.
It has used technology from US company Aryaka, which describes itself as the world’s first cloud-based WAN optimisation-as-a-service solution.
Methven is using Aryaka’s optimised network to connect its New Zealand head office with its support and sales office in the UK.
Methven wanted to deploy a single Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP system across all subsidiaries worldwide — the company also has operations in Australia and China.
Information manager Alan Henderson says in a statement that fast application response times were particularly important for the UK sales and distribution team, seeking to access centralised applications using the Microsoft Desktop Protocol hosted in New Zealand.
“With our precious capital and limited technical support, we didn’t want to pay for big fat pipes or extra hardware to optimise our WAN,”
“Aryaka resolves our issues of high latency at half the cost. The solution is innovative and allows us to roll out our ERP and other applications across our group in a cost-effective and simple manner.
“We’re also happy to see more than 90 percent compression rates on both MsSQL and, crucially, Print JetDirect. The ease of hooking in other remote sites is especially attractive.”
The solution has delivered four times faster response times and a 32 percent reduction in the amount of data transmitted.
