Big Data exhibition scheduled for re-opened National Library

First exhibition when National Library reopens in November will be on the theme of Big Data

The first exhibition in the re-opened National Library building in Wellington in November will be on the theme “Big Data”.

No details beyond the tantalising title are available, says Department of Internal Affairs spokesperson Victoria Dew.

The building has been closed for renovation since December 2009. The main tasks were to “fix leaks on the roof and the ground floor plaza level, replace obsolete systems that no longer work properly, optimise research spaces and provide space to store the collections for the next 20 years,” said an announcement at the time.

The essential maintenance has been done, says a source close to the work. The original plan for a visibly expanded upper story with sheltered walk-spaces underneath was cut back as part of government economies, so the building looks little different from the outside. However, there will be expanded exhibition space, the source says.
