Smart move sees NextWindow bought

Touchscreen firm acquired by Canada's Smart Technologies

Canadian interactive products specialist Smart Technologies has acquired New Zealand optical touch screen maker NextWindow.

In a statement announcing the acquisition, Smart CEO Nancy Knowlton is quoted as saying: “NextWindow’s core values, business model, patent portfolio and focus on the consumer market make it an attractive acquisition for us”.

NextWindow CEO Al Monro says “NextWindow’s development of optical touch technology complements Smart’s efforts, and I’m delighted we’re becoming part of Smart.”

NextWindow’s technology is used in PCs and monitors sold by Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and other manufacturers.

Computerworld has charted NextWindow's successes over the past few years, including its winning of a global deal with HP in 2007.
