Remote restarts automated

New device released

Prague-based HW Group has launched IP WatchDog HWg-WR02a, a device that checks whether a connection to a remote device is alive and, if not, restarts it. Devices supported include servers, switches and routers.

The new device complements the company's previous product, WatchDog Lite, which pings remote devices and resets if necessary

Many datacentres use Telnet to remotely manage devices, but an HW spokesperson says IP WatchDog is more automated than Telnet. "In that case some external operator makes the decision when to switch the power on or off. WatchDog makes this decision without any operator or external software."
