CodeBlue has launched a specialised health sector practice, based at its Auckland office.
The IT services company’s business development manager, Daniel McIvor, is heading the new health IT practice initiative. McIvor currently coordinates CodeBlue’s managed IT services to more than 50 health sector customers. These range in size from larger organisations such as Douglas Pharmaceuticals to mid-sized organisations, including MoleMap, Horizon Radiology and CHT Healthcare Trust.
He says CodeBlue’s objective in forming a specialist health IT practice is to formalise and grow the existing pool of specialist health sector knowledge and expertise within CodeBlue.
“Health organisations across New Zealand are challenged by the rapidly growing demands of such new developments as electronic patient file sharing, supporting new practice management systems, and complex reporting and tracking requirements.
“This means a very rapid process of up-skilling staff with new systems and applications and it requires a robust and efficient IT infrastructure to provide a good foundation – but the quality of individual user support is just as essential,” he says.
McIvor points to three CodeBlue customers – MoleMap, Horizon Radiology and CHT Healthcare Trust (CHT) – as examples of how the right mix of technical expertise, good IT management processes and quality support contribute to success in the health sector.
MoleMap, the New Zealand-developed melanoma and skin cancer screening service, outsourced IT infrastructure service and support across Australia and New Zealand to CodeBlue in 2011, driven by the need for better continuity and security of IT support.
MoleMap’s clinics – as well as participating specialists and GPs – are connected to MoleMap’s network of expert dermatologists via a secure virtual private network. These dermatologists receive the data and images and use sophisticated software tools for an accurate and thorough assessment and diagnosis.
A CodeBlue managed services contract delivers ongoing support for MoleMap’s infrastructure; covering proactive systems/network monitoring and support, regular reporting, and strategic quarterly reviews to ensure the system evolves to meet MoleMap’s needs.
Horizon Radiology is one of New Zealand’s largest radiology practices, with 19 branches in Auckland and the Waikato and 22 affiliated sites around the country. The latest digital X-ray and scanning technology enables extremely fast turnaround of diagnostic services, with a secure network delivering results to doctors’ desktops within hours. CodeBlue is responsible for ensuring maximum network uptime, providing a single point of contact for system or user issues.
CHT Healthcare Trust (CHT), a not-for-profit charitable trust which manages nine hospitals and rest homes with 600 beds around Auckland, outsourced its IT support to CodeBlue. Helpdesk calls which were averaging around 250 a month are now down to less than 50 calls. CodeBlue provides full management and support for a Citrix-based private network with 70 IT users.
