A report into the Government Electronic Tenders System (GETS) that recommended July as a start date for employing staff for a “new generation GETS” has been set aside in favour of a technical audit to investigate making incremental improvements to the existing system.
Azimuth was commissioned last year to produce the report but, according to the Ministry of Economic Development, was not tasked with establishing what was technically possible in terms of modifying the existing system.
Phil Weir, manager Government Procurement Development Group, says the best possible scenario is that the existing system can be enhanced to meet 80 to 90 percent of what stakeholders need at minimal cost.
“If that is the case, we could fund development costs from existing resources and park the remaining 10 to 20 percent of things on the wish list until the economic climate improves,” he says.
