TelstraClear opts for IBM for network support

TelstraClear has sealed a multi-million dollar, three-year deal with IBM for maintenance and support of TelstraClear's Next IP network.

IBM will manage high-level maintenance and support services and also provide TelstraClear with architectural leadership, regression testing capabilities and quality assurance around implementations of new services and equipment, IBM said in a statement.

TelstraClear will continue to manage maintenance and support for basic issues and faults relating to its 8,600 kilometres of New Zealand fibre. IBM will help resolve situations where detailed troubleshooting and analysis methods are required.

Greg Farmer, general manager of Global Technology Services for IBM New Zealand, says IBM's expertise in telecommunications, together with its partnerships with and knowledge of both the Juniper and Extreme network products, enabled IBM to offer TelstraClear a compelling solution.

IBM currently provides similar services to TelstraClear’s parent company Telstra. As such, the support model being implemented locally will ensure strategic alignment between TelstraClear and Telstra Corporation, the statement says.

The contract was signed this month.
