Sun reports loss, weak server sales

FRAMINGHAM (10/17/2003) - Sun Microsystems Inc. reported a US$286 million loss on revenue of $2.54 billion for its first quarter, which ended Sept. 28. CEO Scott McNealy said it could take "the next couple of years" for sales of high-end servers to rebound. Revenue was down 8 percent year-over-year, partly as a result of a halt in most server shipments during July because of quality problems that have been since resolved.
