Microsoft releases 64-bit Win XP beta

FRAMINGHAM (09/26/2003) - Microsoft Corp. released a 64-bit version of Windows XP for beta-testing on desktop PCs and workstations that use processors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Microsoft said the beta release supports AMD's Opteron chip and its Athlon 64 device, which was announced this week. The software is due to ship by mid-2004, as is a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003.
