Microsoft extends Java support plan

FRAMINGHAM (10/14/2003) - Microsoft Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. announced a deal that lets Microsoft continue supporting its Java virtual machine software through next September, nine months longer than originally planned. The companies said the deal is designed to give Microsoft users more time to migrate to other versions of Java. Microsoft plans to drop its Java code as part of the settlement of a lawsuit filed by Sun in 1997.
