FRAMINGHAM (09/19/2003) - Sun Microsystems Inc. said it plans to cut about 1,000 jobs in a new round of layoffs that will reduce its 36,000-person workforce by 3 percent. The company added that it needs to make the cutbacks to meet financial performance goals in its current fiscal year. Most of the layoffs are due to take place this month, but Sun said some of its business units may not complete their cuts until March.
