SBC Communications Inc. President William Daley resigned this week, shortly after SBC named a new COO.
Daley has been replaced by Forrest Miller, group president, external affairs and planning. Miller will lead a new organization combining the company's public affairs and planning units, SBC said.
Miller will report to SBC Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre.
SBC did not disclose a reason for Daley's departure. It comes two weeks after SBC named then-CFO Randall Stephenson as its new COO.
"I enjoyed the opportunity to work at SBC during one of the most remarkable times in the industry's history," Daley said in a statement.
The Public Policy and Planning organization will be responsible for developing and implementing the company's state and federal legislative and regulatory programs. The group will also manage SBC's strategic planning activities.
Miller, a 20-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, was most recently group president, corporate planning for SBC. He has previously served as president and CEO of SBC Southwestern Bell, and he held the same title at SBC SNET in Connecticut.
