Icelandair deploys cargo management system

Icelandair Cargo has implemented the eDeveloper-based Hermes cargo management system from Magic Software Enterprises in a move aimed at helping the Reykjavik, Iceland-based company handle more cargo without adding employees, the companies said in a statement.

The system has also improved Icelandair's customer service because of its cargo management controls, as well as its secured tracking and verification capabilities, according to the statement.

After implementing the Hermes system, Icelandair transported 26 percent more cargo in February than it did in February 2003, the companies said. In addition, Icelandair said it transported 21 percent more cargo in the first two months of this year than in the same period a year ago.

"We needed to streamline our cargo handling process and we wanted to work with a partner experienced at implementing solutions for the air cargo handling sector," said Helgi Bjornsson, Icelandair's director of finance. "Magic Software and the Hermes solution have more than met our requirements and we estimate that the Hermes solution will help us handle at least a fourfold increase in capacity without requiring additional manpower."

Magic Software is based in Houten, Netherlands.
