Internet Service Provider (ISP), DataPro, has announced that it has become one of the ISPs to offer Internet capabilities via Telkom SA Ltd.'s VSAT satellite solution.
Says Carine Conradie, marketing manager at DataPro: "While communicating via satellite is more expensive than ADSL or Diginet, it does benefit those customers situated in rural areas, such as mines and game lodges, who need fast and reliable communication capabilities."
She says the company's core offering costs R275 (US$40) for 3GB per site. "We only expect a small percentage of our client base to opt for satellite communications. While this means that our satellite offering will not generate large revenues for us, we see it as more of a value-added service offering for our clients," she adds.
