State CIO elected to Michigan Virtual University board

FRAMINGHAM (03/26/2004) - Teri M. Takai, director of the Michigan Department of Information Technology (DIT) and the state's chief information officer, was appointed to the Michigan Virtual University (MVU) board of directors. Michigan Virtual University is a private, nonprofit corporation established in 1998 by the State of Michigan to provide e-learning opportunities for Michigan's workforce and to serve as a catalyst in furthering technology-based strategies throughout the education community.

As CIO for the state of Michigan, a position to which Takai was appointed in 2003, Takai oversees 1800 employees. She has held senior technology- related positions with Federal-Mogul, EDS and Ford Motor Company. Takai serves on the Walsh College President's Advisory Council, Junior Achievement board, and the Oakland University Meadowbrook Art Gallery board. She holds both a bachelor's degree in mathematics and master's degree in management from the University of Michigan.
