JOHANNESBURG (03/23/2004) - Fujitsu Siemens Computer Holding BV unveiled its new Lifebook S Series notebooks at CeBIT 2004. One of the features of the new model -- with its weight and dimensions remaining almost unchanged in comparison to its predecessor -- is its bright 14.1-inch display.
Together with its optical drive, comprehensive communications and security features, the Lifebook S7010 aims to offer professional users all the functions of a fully equipped notebook.
In researching the market for mobile computing solutions, Fujitsu Siemens Computers says that it found that key factors for mobile users are weight, battery life, and communications capabilities. The company adds that additional considerations for mobile users also include data security and access protection. It says that the Lifebook S7010 is designed to meet all these requirements and offer mobile users an uncompromised mobility solution.
The company notes that, because the notebook is based Intel Corp.'s Centrino mobile technology, it offers outstanding flexibility of use thanks to its modular bay. It says that the DVD burner, for example, can be removed in one easy step and replaced by a second battery, and that secure authentication and data protection are ensured by a security panel, integrated
SmartCard controller and optional trusted platform module which identifies the notebook through the network.
New features are said to be as follows:
-- 14,1-inch TFT-XGA display;
-- DIN A4 format;
-- Weighing 1,77 kg, almost 1kg lighter than current Lifebook Series with large displays;
-- Dual pointing device (touchpad and integrated touchstick into the keyboard);
-- Optional Port Replicator.
Other claimed highlights of the Lifebook S7010:
-- Fully equipped notebook weighting no more than a typical ultra-portable model;
-- Intel Centrino mobile technology;
-- Optional with Bluetooth, ready for Bluetooth V1.2;
-- Wireless LAN optional;
-- Stable magnesium housing;
-- Combo drive (DVD/CD-R/RW) or DVD burner (DVD+/-R/RW) available, second hard disk drive for data backup, and a second battery.
