Waste Management appoints new CIO

FRAMINGHAM (03/18/2004) - Tom Smith retired as senior vice president and CIO of Waste Management Inc. on March 8, 2004. The Houston-based company named Lynn M. Caddell as Smith's successor. Caddell will lead a group of over 400 information technology workers and will report directly to Waste Management's Chief Executive Officer David Steiner.

Caddell joins Waste Management from Yellow Technologies Inc., where she has served as president since November 1999. Prior to that position, she was vice president of systems development for Yellow Technologies, which is based in Overland Park, Kan. While at Yellow, Caddell and her team received the CIO-100 award in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003. Previously, Caddell held systems development and software engineering positions with America West Airlines, Motorola Inc., and International Business Machines Inc.

Caddell holds a bachelor's degree in history from Jacksonville University and a master's degree in systems engineering from the University of Arizona. She also completed an executive education program at Harvard University.
