JOHANNESBURG (03/18/2004) - BakBone Software Inc., a provider of data protection software, has joined the Open Source Development Labs Inc. (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux.
Through participation in OSDL's Data Center Linux Working Group, BakBone says that it will assist the working group to focus on enterprise Linux data protection technologies.
According to the company, data storage and protection are recognized as key to the acceleration of enterprise-wide adoption of Linux-based applications.
"Through our Linux Advantage initiative, BakBone is committed to extending customer confidence in deploying enterprise applications on Linux," says Sean Jackson, EMEA marketing director at BakBone Software. "Participating in OSDL's Data Center Linux working group enables us to contribute to the overall robustness of data protection on Linux, and further accelerate the adoption of Linux storage solutions in the enterprise."
The company notes that the demand for Linux backup solutions is growing rapidly, and estimates from IDC forecasts for 2003-2007 show Linux market share growth in the backup server market growing from 14 percent in 2002 to 26 percent in 2006.
