Dell introduces Inspiron 9100

JOHANNESBURG (03/03/2004) - Dell Inc. Wednesday introduced its Inspiron 9100, which it says is optimized to provide all the power of a desktop PC for entertainment and home/home office functionality.

The Inspiron 9100 also aims to offer mobility within the home and convenience for occasional travel. "Our European customers tell us that they want a high-performance notebook capable of handling intense applications and complex multimedia functions, including graphics-demanding digital content manipulating capability," says Ben McDonald, client product manager of Dell SA.

With prices starting at R13,740 (including VAT and delivery) (US$1994), the Inspiron 9100 is powered by the Intel Corp. Pentium 4 2,8EGHz processor with hyper-threading capabilities, Dell says. Its graphics are powered by the ATI Technologies Inc. Radeon Mobility 9700 graphics card (64MB or optional 128MB) and a 15,4-inch wide-screen Ultrasharp display, the company says. The Inspiron 9100 is also features integrated subwoofer sound and an integrated DVI port, McDonald adds.

According to Dell, a host of software is standard on the Inspiron 9100, including Microsoft XP Home or Professional, Dell Picture Studio, Dell Media Experience and Dell Security Center.

With the Inspiron 9100, Dell also introduces its "MAXPerformance" design, a new notebook designed to provide a spacious, accommodating form factor that is optimized for performance, and which aims to enable mobile users to custom-configure a notebook with high-performance processing capability, large capacity, high-speed hard drives, up to 128MB leading-edge video graphics and up to 2GB of 400MHz DDR dual channel memory.
