Comparex takes Control with AL Indigo

JOHANNESBURG (01/27/2004) - African Legend Indigo (AL Indigo), the new black-empowered ICT enterprise solutions company, has concluded a deal with Comparex Africa Pty. Ltd. valued at 5 million Rand (US$706,494), in which BMC Software Inc.'s Control product suite will be used to manage a number of IBM Corp. mainframes.

Comparex utilized the BMC Control suite of solutions on a rental basis for seven years, but recently decided to purchase Control outright as the preferred solution to manage its IBM Z900, Z800 and Z67 mainframe environments.

Mike Dean, account manager at AL Indigo, says the BMC product suite is perfectly suited to organizations looking to take control of their scheduling activities; manage tape library systems; and ensure reliable management and collation of communications output.

"This is a rather unique deal, in that Comparex has decided to purchase the five modules of Control as a business service management solution. Because of the company's faith in the product, and the reliable 24/7 support and service provided to Comparex over the years, it only made sense to continue its relationship with BMC.

"BMC Control was entrenched within the organization, and has played a critical role in maintaining reliable and accurate business communications. More important was the fact that Comparex's clients have been pleased with the results delivered by Control over the years," he says.

Eben van Heerden, contracts manager: managed services at Comparex Africa, says the BMC Control suite of products will be used for operations automation and management, tape and print management, as well as job restarts.

He says Comparex Africa decided to purchase the product suite outright -- as opposed to continually renting it -- because it made financial sense in the long run.

"To buy Control was better for us in that, over time, we will only pay for maintenance of the product, which translates into a significant cost saving. And buying Control allows us to further cement our relationship with AL Indigo," he adds.

According to Dean, Comparex has expressed its desire to expand its use of BMC solutions in line with its clients' requirements.

"Companies can now move beyond traditional ICT management and be able to manage their business-critical services from both an ICT and business perspective. BSM enables organizations to understand and predict the impact of technology changes on their business, and conversely, how changes in the business impact their ICT infrastructure. The result is improved business performance, along with reduced cost and complexity of the ICT infrastructure," Dean concludes.
