New HP projector improves wireless projecting

JOHANNESBURG (01/20/2004) - Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP)'s new xp8000 Digital Projector series is now said to offer local companies remote management, wireless functionality and dual color wheels, all enabled through a standard network connection.

Distributed to the South Africa (SA) marketplace by Rectron (Pty) Ltd., the xp8000 aims to offer enhanced brightness, vibrant colors and a choice of lenses that improves and simplifies the projecting process.

Explains Zandré Rudolph, HP product manager at Rectron: "One of the key features of the xp8000 is that it enables users to present wirelessly from a PC or Pocket PC via the network or directly from a Compact Flash memory card."

HP's compression technology also cuts the delay usually associated with wireless technologies, the company says. No lag time means that presentations run uninterrupted and smoothly, HP adds.

Importantly, an automatic e-mail alert is designed to be activated as soon as the projector is removed from the network or power, therefore offering critical protection against potential theft. Rudolph also adds that all data content is protected by an enhanced-security wireless protocol.

With the xp8000's remote access management software (via the network connection) users can remotely manage their projectors over the network, adjust settings, receive automatic warnings, set passwords and update firmware, he continues.

The xp8000 can be mounted on a ceiling -- for a more long-term installation, a tripod, or just placed on a tabletop.
