McAfee provides services for Microsoft Exchange Servers

JOHANNESBURG (01/16/2004) - Network Associates Inc., an intrusion prevention solutions company, has announced the availability of McAfee GroupShield 6.0 and McAfee SpamKiller 2.1 for Microsoft Corp. Exchange.

McAfee GroupShield 6.0 aims to deliver advanced content security to protect Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 platforms from today's most advanced e-mail threats.

Available as either a stand-alone or integrated solution to McAfee GroupShield, McAfee SpamKiller is designed to provide a robust solution for enterprise anti-spam protection. Through an optimized weighted scoring system, McAfee SpamKiller delivers up to 95 percent accuracy with low false positive detection, the company says.

Both McAfee GroupShield 6.0 and McAfee SpamKiller aim to provide extremely high levels of content security control and granularity by offering user group-based policies to apply departmental or user security policies based on functional roles.

Says Chris Christiansen, program vice-president for IDC's security products and infrastructure overview services, "Virus infection is still one of the main concerns regarding corporate security, but other factors, such as spam, are increasingly driving the adoption of advanced content management technologies. McAfee GroupShield and McAfee SpamKiller for Exchange provide anti-virus, anti-spam and advanced content management capabilities for granular control and consolidated management and reporting -- providing Microsoft Exchange customers with a multi-layered defense against malicious threats."

With new advanced content management capabilities, McAfee GroupShield aims to prevent liability and productivity issues that can arise when employees receive or send offensive or abusive e-mail messages and attachments internally or externally.

McAfee GroupShield 6.0 is said to allow ICT managers to filter undesirable content, such as profanity, sexist or racist subject matter, before it enters or leaves the corporate network by setting up rules to qualify e-mail when it is received or before it is sent, both internally and externally.

With McAfee Outbreak Manager, McAfee GroupShield also proactively prevents large-scale mass mailer outbreaks and, with McAfee Alert Manager, provides ICT administrators with unparalleled notification to malicious threats, the company adds.

McAfee GroupShield and McAfee SpamKiller for Exchange are managed by McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), which is designed to provide enterprise software deployment, policy management and graphical reporting. McAfee ePO gives ICT administrators the visibility they need to evaluate their policy's effectiveness, evaluate their network's weak points and to customize reports to fit their specific needs, the company concludes.
