SAN FRANCISCO (01/13/2004) - FineGround Networks Inc. on Tuesday introduced Velocity, an appliance version of its application optimization and monitoring software suite.
Velocity is designed to improve the performance of enterprise Web applications such as e-mail, portals, and collaboration and to provide organizations with a means to monitor application response time.
Application performance has become a critical issue, as more enterprises extend core applications from corporate headquarters out over the WAN to branch offices, according to Jay Mellman, vice president of marketing at FineGround.
"We are able to handle problems of network latency that arise as organizations push business processes out to users farther and farther away from where they are running applications," he said. "The issue is how do we make apps work better on the WAN without having to rewrite the application."
FineGround officials said the Velocity appliance typically provides 300 percent performance gains for Web apps.
"Organizations wouldn't do this for 10 (percent) to 20 percent performance gains. They are seeing performance gains around 300 percent, which is equivalent to taking a 30-second response time for an application and dropping it down to the 7-second range," Mellman said.
FineGround's application acceleration and agentless monitoring technology also is available as a software offering, dubbed Performance Suite.
