JOHANNESBURG (01/13/2004) - The Budget Group, a U.K.-based insurance company, and Wesgro have announced that Budget has signed a lease for a substantial contact center facility in Cape Town, which brings an investment of 100 million Rand (US$143,885) to the province over three years.
The 200-seat contact center will be up and running by June, with a view to potentially further expanding the center's capacity in the future. The contact center will be an expansion of Budget's activities in the U.K., where it plans to double its customer base to 1.6 million by 2006.
It will operate in real time, and be fully integrated with the U.K. contact centers. A unique technology solution will be implemented, devised by Telkom SA Ltd. specifically for Budget, and rigorously tested, reflecting Telkom's ability to provide advanced solutions to the contact center industry and its international clients.
Peter Winslow, Group CE of Budget, says that the insurance group has chosen to locate to Cape Town after having considered a number of other locations. He comments, "We have chosen Cape Town primarily because we are very impressed with the contact center skills available, including the service attitude, the accent and employees' willingness to learn, all of which is an unbeatable combination."
The Budget Group already has an affiliated company in South Africa (SA), Budget Insurance Brokers, which was established in 1998. Budget has registered the new contact center as a local company, under the name of Fusion Outsourcing Services, so this investment will not only provide job opportunities, but will also contribute to the country's economy through Fusion paying SA company tax.
