JOHANNESBURG (12/02/2003) - Pegasus Mpower, the local distributor of U.K.-based accounting software company Pegasus Software Ltd., has installed its flagship accounting solution, Opera II, at two companies in Lesotho, National Drug Sales Organisation (NDSO) and Lesotho Pharmaceuticals, as part of its growing drive into Africa.
Lesotho Pharmaceuticals installed a 10-user Opera II solution, while NDSO installed a 15-user system.
John Wilson, MD of Pegasus Mpower, says the company also recently announced a cut in the price of its software of "more than 50 percent", a move that is expected to assist it to sell more software into Africa.
"African companies are very price-sensitive. Our accounting solution is well-suited to their requirements -- in fact, it gives them more features and scalability than required. So, being able to cut our prices by 50 percent means that we will be better-placed to increase the number of sales. We are aiming to become one of the biggest suppliers of accounting solutions into Africa. Our aggressive price, we believe, will give us an added edge over our competitors in terms of price performance," he adds.
Normally focused on the lower mid-range accounting software market, the announcement about the huge price cuts comes after "extensive negotiations" between the local distributor and Pegasus Business Software in the U.K., the owner of the Pegasus brand. Pegasus has more than 30,000 clients in the U.K. alone.
