SAP AG late yesterday announced that a promised Linux version of its R/3 enterprise resource planning (ERP) system has gone into beta testing.
The German vendor also said it now plans to develop Linux releases of its Business Information Warehouse data warehousing software and Business-to-Business Procurement online purchasing application, although it didn't disclose delivery schedules for those packages.
SAP, which first detailed its Linux plans for R/3 in March, is initially supporting the open-source operating system on Intel Corp.-based servers.
Oracle Corp. has also said its ERP applications will get Linux support. It was aiming to start shipments last spring but decided to hold off on the Linux release until an upgrade of the ERP software becomes available late this year.
