Buy for BMC

ITM acquired

By Chris Kanaracus, Boston | Monday, 30 June, 2008

BMC has bought ITM Software, which makes applications for managing the business-related aspects of IT operations.

ITM's Business Suite product consists of a number of modules that focus on topics such as financial resource management, vendor relationship management and staffing.

"This is all stuff that for the most part BMC doesn't have, or if they do have it, it's not that strong," says Mary Johnston Turner, senior analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. "It's a solid addition to their portfolio."

BMC is battling for market share in the IT operations and BSM (business service management) space along with "Big Four" rivals IBM, CA and Hewlett-Packard.

The terms of the ITM buy were not disclosed.
