Original determination of cause of disruption is revised

Vodafone has released a statement this afternoon, after FX Networks managing director Murray Jurgeleit rebutted claims by Vodafone that work carried out by FX had contributed to an outage affecting Vodafone customers in the North Island.

The statement reads: "On Saturday, one of Vodafone’s fibre network providers FX Networks began a planned network upgrade to cabling between Taupiri and Horotiu.

"The work was not expected to impact service to Vodafone customers, however a fault was triggered during the work and the automated network fail over did not take place as expected. The resulting disruption to service was clearly Vodafone’s responsibility and we acknowledge that FX networks was not at fault.

"This issue affected 16 sites in the Bay of Plenty to varying degrees. Some had 2G capability, some had 3G capability intermittently. Overall Vodafone operates around 1300 cellsites throughout New Zealand.

"All 16 sites were back up and running by 2.40pm on Saturday.

"Vodafone would like to apologise for any impact or inconvenience caused to our customers. Vodafone is fully focused on ensuring this kind of issues does not happen again and would like to apologise to those affected by the weekend’s events."

karma Shame on you Vodafone for trying to hide your network outages and blame other people, at least Telecom is honest. you might not be so quick to make such sweeping media statements about your own reliability!

Questionable or is it just me? Good to see that the FX aren't making any comments on this page,

I love these three comments, not made by FX people at all huh?
1.*people in glass houses should not throw stones
Perhaps we should wait for the Voda marketing people to get to work to get the "true" picture. :)
2.*Telstra/Voda reliable network yeah right
Hmm seems Voda/TelstraClears Network is not so reliable after all. What was the attempt to blame FX all about. Libelious. (P.S. Also if you're going to use big words know how spell them.) Libellous

3.*Hahahah
Hahahahaha - it can happen to anyone. Voda trying to blame someone else first. WHAT A JOKE. At least Telecom admit their problems.

What really happened It was one of those pixies - you know, the ones that magically clean up your dirty socks from where you dropped them, that put your dishes away when you leave them lying around.
A drunk pixie chewed through the fibre. All hail wine from the BOP, it's magic.

2 Degrees @ Sid

2 Degrees have their own Network in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch & Queenstown - that's it so far - outside those areas, they roam on Vodafone. TelstraClear / Slingshot / Black & White / Call Plus all roam on Vodafone nationally as well.

This recent performance degradation, which lasted 4 hours on the Vodafone Network, in parts of the BOP, did not totally render the 70% of the Network coverage useless, like the XT Outages did & people could still use their phones!!!

Guess XT isn't the only imperfect network! Well, I wouldn't take it too hard Vodafone, it can obviously happen to anyone.
