VMware creates NZ regional manager role

VMware has shoulder tapped its Wellington based senior corporate account manager Tim Dacombe-Bird to become New Zealand regional manager.

The newly created role means VMware has a local management presence. Dacombe-Bird officially starts in the role on January 1 next year. He will remain in Wellington and report directly to ANZ managing director Paul Harapin.

“It’s a natural progression to have some management function to set the tone for the marketplace here,” he says.

He will be charged with driving the vendor’s V80 campaign to get 80 percent of its customers achieve 80 percent virtualised infrastructure.

“The V80 initiative will be a big focus and there is a lot of interest in our virtual desktop business. We’re also continuing our relationship with our service providers around cloud [computing].”

Dacombe-Bird joined VMware three and a half years ago. He was the first local sales member appointed. Prior to joining the company, Dacombe-Bird worked in sales roles at Citrix, BMC Software and Compaq. He has more than 25 years experience in IT.

“We’ll be looking to strengthen the relationship with our channel partners. Our business is 100 percent channel focused so even our direct customer facing employees are all about end user demand generation with channel fulfilment,” he says.
