Potential 'all-of-government' land information system flagged

Land Information New Zealand and the Department of Conservation have gone to market for a shared land information system to kick off what LINZ calls a key priority project in its 2010 programme of work.

However, the agencies' are also investigating the potential to meet the requirements of other agencies and potentially lay the foundation for an “all-of-government” land information system.

DOC is interested in replacing its Land Register, a core component of the department's Land Information Management System (LIMS), as well as its interfaces to other DOC applications such as asset management.

The agencies are seeking a proposal from a vendor to provide an off-the-shelf system, a bespoke system, an update of existing systems or a managed service, to meet their needs.

"This may result in a separate system for each agency with common elements as well as specific elements for their particular requirements," a document released to market recently says. "The successful respondent is to provide the services for the implementation of the solution, the transition from each agency's existing land information property system and, where applicable, the ongoing support and maintenance of the replacement or updated system for the agencies."

Funding is approved for the project provided acceptable software is found.

LINZ is charged with investing and managing systems to maintain and deliver information relating to New Zealand’s land and sea areas and to manage and enforce land transactions.

DOC is charged with promoting conservation of the natural and historic heritage of New Zealand.
