Failed e-marketplace Southfresh will live on under the name Foodstuffs FreshNet following a deal by two Foodstuffs companies to buy the marketplace software.
Foodstuffs Auckland and Wellington, key customers of the fish trading system, will keep it running to supply their North Island stores.
The Varenti software cost about $1 million to develop. Southfresh was closed in late August after failing in its bid to expand beyond the seafood market.
Another Southfresh customer, Auckland’s Oceanic Foods, says it will have to go “cap in hand” to Foodstuffs to see if it can continue to use the trading software.
