Telecom maps its fibre onto government's broadband map
By Rob O'Neill | Auckland | Tuesday, 4 November, 2008
Telecom has added its fibre networks to the Digital Strategy's broadband map, and surprised some with the amount of fibre already in the ground.
TUANZ chairman Chris O'Connell says the move is proof of a huge cultural change within Telecom and one that would have changed his thinking when applying for Broadband Challenge funding to build Nelson's fibre network.
The zoomable map provides users and network planners with readily accessible information on national networks to assist their planning.
"There's no way the old Telecom would have released that information," he says. "They've changed the game from playing with a closed hand to playing with an open hand."
