State Services Commission produces a new network tool

Demand aggregation — the ability to combine the demand of a number of organisations — has been productively used as a method of interesting suppliers and funders in providing broadband services; it was a basic technique for securing Broadband Challenge funding and justifying other local government broadband initiatives.
A project led by the State Services Commission has now produced a tool for broadband demand aggregation, the National Broadband Map. This was launched in beta mode at the Digital Summit last week and is available on the Digital Strategy site here.
Based on the map application Zoomin, by Wellington-based ProjectX Technology, the National Broadband Map gives a New Zealand-wide view of existing broadband networks from Telecom, TelstraClear, FX Networks and the Broadband Challenge and shows the location of the POPs for the science and education network KAREN.
It also shows central government, local government and private industry points of demand.
Users can add their own business or private residence to the map, allowing potential suppliers and backers of networks to get a picture of unsatisfied demand.
