Skype offers domestic calls for zero cents per minute and international calls from mobile phones at local rates

Skype has launched a new subscription package in New Zealand, called Skype Pro. For a monthly fee of $3.55, the package offers free calls to domestic landlines.

Also part of the Skype Pro package is Skype To Go, which allows users to talk to a friend or family member abroad from any phone at local rates.

Skype Pro customers will receive a Skype To Go number at no additional cost, says Skype. To activate the Skype To Go number, users select the friend or family member living abroad they want to call, enter their international number and Skype To Go will give the user a local number to use instead, says Skype.

With the Skype To Go number, users can call the friend from any phone, anytime. This number can be stored on a mobile phone.

For instance, if the chosen friend lives in the UK, calling that friend will cost the same as calling someone across the street, plus the SkypeOut rate for landlines in the UK, which costs from 3 cents per minute, according to Skype.

“Millions of Skypers around the world already make cheap international calls from their computer. With Skype To Go, you don’t have to think twice about the cost of making an international call from your mobile phone. If you have a friend living abroad, you can talk to them anytime you want,” says Stefan Oberg, VP & GM Telecoms at Skype.

Skype Pro was originally launched to 15 European countries at the beginning of this year and is now available world-wide.

Skype Pro is a fixed fee product priced at $3.55 per month and includes a range of features that vary depending on the country. More details are available on Skype's website.
