Time for a change, says Macaulay

InternetNZ is looking for a new executive director. The incumbent, Peter Macaulay, who has held the position since January 2003, will leave on July 31 this year.

Macaulay says he's enjoyed his time with InternetNZ "tremendously" but that he was always in the role for a fixed term.

"I only intended to remain in the role while the transition was taking place and I've already overstayed that mark by six months," says Macaulay, referring to the move away from owning a monopoly on domain name registration to a shared registry model.

"They don't need an entrepreneurial person in the position for a longer term. They need a different kind of manager going forward."

Vice president David Farrar credits Macaulay as a key influence in the major growth in the activities of InternetNZ over the past two and a half years. “InternetNZ today is almost unrecognisable from where we were three years ago, in terms of the range of activities we are involved in, and the relationships we have with stakeholders,” he says.

The selection process is already under way, and advertisements have been placed in IT- and business-oriented publications, including Computerworld.

"We are looking forward to considering applications from interested persons who have a passion for internet issues, proven management ability and excellent leadership skills," Farrar says.

Macaulay will be formally farewelled after the InternetNZ annual general meeting on July 30, but intends to retain an interest and involvement with the internet community.
