First Assistant Secretary, Knowledge and Technology

Full Time
Posted on 17.02.2017

The Department of the Environment and Energy delivers major Government initiatives to promote the conservation and sustainable use of Australia’s natural resources and to ensure community and industry energy needs are met through the efficient use and adequate, reliable and competitive supply of energy.

To do its business effectively, the Department needs access to reliable and up-to-date information, supported by leading edge, fit-for-purpose technology platforms. Advances in digital and spatial technology provide exciting opportunities for the Department’s work – opportunities which we are already taking and which we want to accelerate. The Department also has a critical role in ensuring the public availability and use of reliable data.

As the First Assistant Secretary, Knowledge and Technology (SES Band 2) you will lead a newly created Division that has been established to strengthen the Department’s creation, sharing and use of critical knowledge and further enhance our technology capability. You will take the lead in designing the information, technical and digital architecture to support our business and inform critical decisions. You will lead a significant change agenda and oversee the delivery of strategic projects and work collaboratively with partner agencies across Government.

To be a strong contender for this important role you will excel in leading people through change. You will be strategic and innovative in focus and will have a strong track record of delivery in leading complex information and technology functions to meet business needs. Your integrity, judgement and strong leadership credentials will be paramount. Your impressive personal style and ability to engender trust and respect will be complemented by a strong business focus, intellectual rigour, first class communication skills and a strong sense of collaboration – within the Department, with other Government agencies and with the public and business community.
