Movie and TV streaming service, Quickflix NZ, has launched two new services: Quickflix Access and Quickflix Red Carpet; services that it says “will bring the latest Hollywood movies and exclusive entertainment and other benefits to Kiwi movie fans.”
Quickflix Access offers new release movies on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ basis, with no upfront fee or subscription. Quickflix Red Carpet includes Quickflix Access but also allows users to watch several new release movies each month at discount rate to Quickflix Access by paying upfront. They also get access to additional movies and TV shows from the Quickflix subscription catalogue.
Quickflix NZ has also announced the appointments of general manager Paddy Buckley, Erik Pence and Vaughn Smith as new directors, saying: “The appointment of Paddy Buckley reaffirms his remit to develop Quickflix NZ into an exciting and innovative new streaming service, differentiated from others in the market.” Buckley has been with Quickflix NZ since its launch in 2012.
Quickflix said Pence and Smith were “Hollywood veterans with over 20 years’ each of technical, content and marketing experience who have taken charge of Quickflix in Australia and are now setting their sights on New Zealand.”
Buckley said the new plans were the company’s “first significant step towards building the most competitive digital movie rental service around.”
He added: “Kiwis have always been underserved when it comes to the latest and best entertainment, but not any more — Quickflix will be the most fun way for all Kiwis to get the movies they want more quickly and at a better value than anywhere else. We’re just getting started.”
Quickflix says the new services will offer the Disney animated movie, Finding Dory, many months before any subscription streaming service in New Zealand. It also plans to run exclusive competitions for Red Carpet members, offering the chance to win trips to red carpet events in Hollywood.
