2Degrees launches 1Gbps UFB service

2degrees has launched 1Gbps/500Mbps broadband services on UFB networks operated by Chorus, Enable, Ultra-Fast Fibre and Northpower

2degrees has launched 1Gbps/500Mbps broadband services on UFB networks operated by Chorus, Enable, Ultra-Fast Fibre and Northpower.

2degrees’ Ultra-fast Fibre Unlimited data, (up to 1Gbps/500Mbps), is priced at $139.95 a month. Customers who join 2degrees for two years can get a monthly discount of $36 off this price in their first year. 2degrees’ Pay Monthly mobile customers also get an extra $10 off their broadband bill each month.

2degrees said the new speed boost was intended for high data users with multiple devices rather than single-computer households and would be made available to business customers later in the year.

Ultrafast Fibre and Northpower Fibre have confirmed their 1Gbps residential services will be available to all service providers in their regions from 1 October.

Both companies have completed the build of their respective UFB networks. When combined, these networks provide fibre access to around 220,000 end user customers across Ultrafast Fibre’s Central North Island region including Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Whanganui, Hawera, Cambridge, Tokoroa and Te Awamutu and Northpower Fibre's Whangarei network.

“The 1Gbps product means residential customers will be able to use even more digital devices simultaneously, with much quicker downloading of content such as music and streaming of HD TV and movies, HD/Virtual Reality gaming and applications, and upload of high resolution content,” they said in a joint announcement.
