Clouds gather: SecureCom to rescue Atmospheric

SecureCom said that, if the deal goes ahead, five of Atmospheric’s staff would join the team at its Auckland site

Privately held IT and cloud services provider SecureCom has signed an unconditional agreement to acquire Auckland-based cloud specialist Atmospheric, recently placed in receivership. SecureCom said five of Atmospheric’s staff would join the team at its Auckland site, taking total employee numbers to more than 50.

According to SecureCom, Atmospheric is a recognised industry leader in the architecture, deployment and support of cloud technologies, including Microsoft Office 365 and Azure. It has more than eight years experience deploying and supporting Microsoft cloud was named Microsoft’s Cloud SMB Partner of the Year in 2015 and was a finalist in the 2016 Partner of the Year Awards.

Atmospheric claims to be the only New Zealand company listed in the new global IDC study of the top performing Microsoft Cloud Partners Worldwide and one of only 25 Microsoft partners globally — and one of only three in Australasia — to contribute to The Modern Microsoft Partner Series, Part 1: The Booming Cloud Opportunity, an IDC eBook sponsored by Microsoft.

SecureCom director, Greg Mikkelsen, said the acquisition would be highly complementary to SecureCom’s existing managed ICT and cloud services business and would expand SecureCom’s market reach and strengthen its cloud and managed services offerings.

“The benefit for us is that we will achieve synergies by combining these businesses, through economies of scale gained from our 24x7 service desk and engineering capability, the consolidation of premises and rationalisation of costs. In addition, there are significant revenue synergies available, including the potential to attract new customers and cross-sell opportunities to existing client.

He added: “We gain effective and immediate access to the skills of the talented people who have been supporting Atmospheric’s customers over recent years. Atmospheric has a reputation for high quality service, which has attracted clients nationally, including organisations with branch sites in Australia, the US and the UK.

“SecureCom has over 13 years of cloud and managed service experience and our team will ensure the transition is smooth and seamless, working with the Atmospheric team to ensure that each client’s business carries on without any interruption.”
