Ahead of the planned merger of Vodafone and Sky, Vodafone’s UK based parent, Vodafone Group, has published results for the three months to 30 June 2016.
Mobile numbers declined slightly over the quarter. Eighteen thousand net contract customer additions were offset by 19,000 net prepaid service disconnections, leaving the company with 2.401 million customers at 30 June.
Fixed broadband customers grew slightly over the quarter, from 412,000 to 424,000.
However mobile numbers year on year were up. Vodafone Group said: “In New Zealand, service revenue was up 1.8 percent [compared to the same period in 2015], driven by strong fixed line performance and mobile customer growth across both consumer and enterprise.”
If the merger goes ahead, Vodafone Group will become a 51 per cent shareholder in the combined group and receive $1.25 billion in cash. It will “look to realise the benefits of an estimated $850 million NPV from synergies,” it says.
Sky shareholders have voted in favour of the transaction but completion is still subject to local regulatory approvals. Vodafone expects the deal to complete around the end of calendar 2016.
