How businesses can accelerate Windows 10 migration

With the Windows 10 launch now underway, business looking to accelerate migrations require due diligence.

Citrix’s Safi Obeidullah, Director for Technical Services, says that while operating systems come and go, certain business applications remain the same, sometimes surviving multiple OS platforms.

As such, Obeidullah believes virtualisation is the best way to get the most out of Windows 10.

“Before migrating to Windows 10, enterprises need to make sure their core applications and data are supported and available on the new operating system,” Obeidullah says.

“This will save businesses time, money and effort before undergoing a full migration, which can sometimes take up to two years.

“Additionally, if organisations have a variety of hardware and office locations, a clear strategy needs to be developed to ensure Windows 10 can be deployed seamlessly across the entire company.”

To remain productive throughout the Windows 10 migration, Obeidullah says companies can adopt technology such as app and desktop virtualisation to help automate and analyse app capability and remediate issues.

This in turn, can substantially reduce the cost and complexity around application upgrades, migrations and updates.

“To assist IT departments in deploying Windows 10 across both old and new devices in multiple locations, virtualisation not only increases IT control and reduce management complexity, but also dramatically simplifies the entire process for handling updates, upgrades, software maintenance and migrations,” Obeidullah adds.
