The Software Acquisition Strategy program managed by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is to be extended to global software providers other than Microsoft.
The program is based on the Microsoft G2012 cross-government licensing approach where the framework covers both traditional and cloud-based software.
It allows the government to aggregate all Microsoft technology purchases and accommodates shared services delivery models.
The latest Government ICT update newsletter says the first focus of the extension will be on VMWare, Oracle and Citrix. SAS, SAP, Adobe, IBM, HP and the Microsoft G2015 renewal will follow in later phases.
Engagement has begun with VMWare, Oracle and Citrix.
The newsletter says a program team is setting up client advisory groups to each of these suppliers.
These groups will provide sector-specific advice on requirements and strategic directions and ensure the right outcomes are achieved with suppliers, according to the newsletter.
The current Microsoft agreement is designed to support the changing nature of the public sector and its workforce, allowing for fluctuations in employee numbers and the movement of licenses between agencies.
