ICT Minister David Cunliffe is to be formally appointed as an honorary fellow of the NZ Computer Society on Monday. Honorary fellowships (HFNZCS) “are conferred on those that have contributed significantly to the ICT Sector in New Zealand,” says NZCS chief executive Paul Matthews. Cunliffe “has earned the respect of many in the ICT field, regardless of political affiliation, through his understanding of both the ‘big picture’ and the details of the issues the ICT sector faces,” he adds. Honorary fellows are appointed following a vote both by the Society’s ruling council and an assembly of the current fellows of the society, with a two-thirds majority vote required in each case. There are currently 19 honorary fellows.
